John Benjamin Fields

Obituary Date: Sunday, February 25, 2024

Mr. John Benjamin Fields, age 76, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family.

John is a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County.  He was born on December 1, 1947, to the late Rev. Barney and Donnie Belle Fields. John was raised in a wonderful Christian home with his sister Sarah Fields Pittman.  Now the Rev. Barney Fields family is together once again as John walked into Heaven.  Those who also greeted John in Heaven were his father-in-law and mother-in-law Elisha and Selena Corn. nephews Korey and Joshua Godfrey, his brothers-in-law Hugh Smith, and Bobby Pittman, and good friend Larry Banister.  From being a huge cut-up to extending a helping hand, John Fields was a man you loved to see coming.  In the heart and eyes of his girls, John was the best dad and “Papa” you could ever imagine.  His favorite hobbies were whatever his beloved grandchildren were doing at the time.

John devoted his life to serving Lumpkin County through his company Fields Monument and Grave and Vault Service.  He has been there to help lay many of his precious friend’s loved ones to rest in cemeteries all over the area.  John did it with love and care. He was deeply loved by his community and was a friend to the entire Lumpkin County, who will be greatly missed.

Missing him most will be his wife, of 51 years, Joyce Fields, Dahlonega; children Nicole and Rob Reh, Cumming; Candi and Ashley Wilkins, Dahlonega; Jodi and Jim Ligon, Dahlonega; grandchildren Kylie Reh (Robert Fain), Nicholas Reh, John-Robert Reh, Abram Wilkins, Elin Wilkins, Scooter Ligon, sister-in-law Joan Smith; niece Sheri Hooper; several other relatives and numerous friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at Cavenders Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Stephen Adams and the Rev. Danny Jarrard will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Phillip Robinson officiating. The family prayer will be prayed by the Rev. Lyman Caldwell. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2024, and 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Cavenders Creek Baptist Church c/o Clark Anderson, P.O. Box 549, Dahlonega, GA 30533 to restore and upkeep monuments and cemetery maintenance.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Penny Crews, who proved more than a hospice nurse during John’s sickness and passing.
