Dottie Galloway

Obituary Date: Wednesday, February 14, 2024

Dottie Galloway, 94, of Roswell, GA, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio; Brooksville, FL; and Gainesville, GA passed away peacefully Monday. She has joined Ron, her beloved husband of 66 years and we are sure they are dancing and laughing together once again. Her strength and loving spirit endeared her to everyone who knew her.

Dottie excelled at everything she attempted. A former beauty queen, she rose from part-time bookkeeper to clerk-treasurer of several Ohio school systems. She was named the top State school Employee in Ohio and served as an officer in numerous professional organizations.  Following her move to Florida, she became a million dollar salesperson her first year in real estate.   She was a tireless volunteer, officer, and trip planner for the many organizations in which she and Ron were involved including the Elks, Masons, Eastern Star, American Legion and various church groups.

Jan 29, 2024, the mayor pro tem of Roswell, read a proclamation honoring her volunteerism at Brookdale Senior Living where she headed the Menu Review committee, organized a team for resident communications and assisted with helping new residents.

But what people will remember most about Dottie is her warmth and loving care for the people she met.  Family and friends were EVERYTHING to her. In the dictionary, the definition of a “people person” is Dottie Galloway.  She will be missed. Her earthly body gave out, but her huge heart and compassion live on in the hundreds of people she touched.

She is survived by her brothers, David A. Whitacre of Roswell; William J. Whitacre and his wife Rose of Boston, MA; son David J. Galloway and his wife Sherri of Oakwood; daughter Deborah L. Galloway of Alpharetta; granddaughter Abigail M Edwards and her husband Branden of Las Vegas, NV; Grandson Joshua Galloway and his wife Katerina and great-grandson Andrew Milton Galloway of Somerville, MA; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and dozens of friends who will miss her greatly.

The family will receive friends and viewing at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors, 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, Georgia 30075 from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Friday, February 16.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Northside Chapel. Interment will be at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of Dorothy Galloway to St Jude’s Hospital or the American Legion.
