Reba Price Caudell

Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 31, 2024

Reba Price Caudell, age 78 of Toccoa, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

The fifth of six children to the late William Carroll Price and Sarah Elsie Durham Price, she was born September 6, 1945 in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. After graduating high school in South Pittsburg, Reba went on to receive her undergraduate and Masters degree in education from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. After graduation, she taught school for several years at Avondale High School in Atlanta. During this time, a fellow teacher set her up on a blind date with her future husband, Elliott. They married on July 29, 1972 in Atlanta and settled in Toccoa.

Reba taught school at Toccoa Elementary for years and then became an active volunteer while her children attended there. Later she was a beloved substitute teacher at Stephens County High School. She also served on the Stephens County Department of Family and Children Services board for over 25 years and served on various boards in the community.

As an active member of First Baptist Church, Reba served faithfully in many capacities. She initiated a weekly ladies’ Bible study there which played a vital role in her life. Reba’s love for her God and his Word was evident by her love for people and readiness to serve sacrificially. Reba’s ability to cultivate friendships and relationships in all stages of life was incredible. Her joy for life and her friendly personality was contagious to those around her. Renowned for her warm hospitality, her door was always open, as was her heart to friend and stranger alike. She had the gift of listening, sympathizing, and encouraging both in person and through beautifully written cards and letters. She enjoyed a ministry of note-writing for every occasion. Because of her sincere interest in and love for people, Reba was in return, highly regarded and dearly loved by her community.

Reba was an inspiration to all who watched her courage, strength, and faith in the face of a ferocious disease. She fought Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis valiantly for over six years, even participating in a clinical trial to try and slow the disease progression.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roger Elliott Caudell, her sister, Mary Helen Price Rogers, two brothers, Melvin Carroll Price and William Kendrick Price and her father and mother in law, Roger Conrad Caudell and Faye Ragsdale Caudell.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Caudell Walters (Christian) of Augusta; her two sons, Stephen Price Caudell (Kim) of Toccoa and Wesley Roger Caudell (Jordan) of Birmingham, Alabama; six grandsons, Britt, Price, Hayes, Benjamin, Hampton, and Will and one granddaughter, Elliott;  sisters Gail Price Galloway (Mike) of Greenville, South Carolina and Ann Price Hudson of Atlanta.
