David Dixon Tate

Obituary Date: Monday, January 29, 2024

Mr. David Dixon Tate, age 86 of Pebble Creek Drive, Toccoa passed away Monday, January 29, 2024 at his residence.

A son of the late Loyse Vaughn Tate and Eula Lucille Little Tate, he was born June 24, 1937 in New Albany, Mississippi, having lived in Toccoa, Georgia for the last 37 years.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and the National Guard.  He was retired from Coats and Clark with 38 years of service, was past President of Kiwanis Club of Toccoa and past Lt. Governor of District 10 Kiwanis. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years at First Apostolic Church in Aurora, Illinois and served as treasurer at Apostolic Assembly in Mt. Airy, Georgia.  He loved spending time with his family, loved everyone and treated everyone as he would want to be treated. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Emma JoAnn Akins Tate in 2011, by three sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Sharon Niswonger Tate; daughters, Lisa (Jack) Snow of Oswego, Illinois, Kim (Kevin) Hickey of Fairborn, Oho and Shaunette Thompson of Martin, Georgia; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; step-children, Bradley Waltrip (Lisa) of Mountain Home,  Arkansas and Amy Williams (Eric) of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; five step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild; sisters, Nell Moody , Geneva Browning and Becky Barnes all of Mississippi.

 

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 1, 2024, 6 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Kevin Hickey, The Reverend Jerry Ledford and The Reverend Stacy Penland officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the service time at 6 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will be in the Glenfield Memorial Park, New Albany Mississippi on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10 a.m.  The family will receive friends at the Glenfield Chapel, New Albany Mississippi from 9 a.m. until time for the interment.
