Sidney Williams

Mr. Sidney Williams, age 85 of Commerce passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital.  Mr. Williams was born in Commerce to the late, Dewitt and Annette McGinnis Williams.  Mr. Williams was also preceded in death by his brother, Lamar Williams.

Mr. Sidney Williams, at a young age, became a young farmer helping his Dad on the family farm.  He then married the love of his life, Joy Blalock.  He then began his career with McLean Freight Line of Athens, GA.  He went on to retire from Yellow Freight Line with 32 years of safe driving awards.  Sidney was a cattle farmer and as many people knew him as a renowned master stew maker.  Sidney never met a stranger and was loved by all.  He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.  Sidney was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Joy Blalock Williams of Commerce; daughter, Lynn Hart (Danny) of Commerce; son, Clay Williams (Brenda) of Commerce; grandchildren, Ryan Carey, Kyle Howington (Ashley), Meagan Hobbs (Justin), and Jonathan Williams all of Commerce; great grandchildren, Lane and Luke Howington and Hudson Hobbs; brothers, Mike Williams of LaGrange, Gene Williams of Athens, Donnie Williams of Martinez, and Bobby Williams of Commerce; sisters, Joyce Chifici of Athens, Evelyn Bur of Athens, and Sandra Freeman of Commerce.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 28^th at 2 PM from Blacks Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Don Blalock, Rev. Sam Henderson, and Rev. Chris Burns officiating with interment following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 5-8 PM.
