Wanda Mullinax Deaton

Wanda Mullinax Deaton, of Buford, Georgia went home to be with her Lord on January 20, 2024. Wanda was born August 14, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by her husband and soulmate of 47 years Jimmy Deaton, son and daughter-in-law Ben and Gina Deaton, and grandchildren Norah, Asher, and Margaret Deaton. She is also survived by brothers Allen (Kim Buchanan) Mullinax and Jeff (Lynn Zahner) Mullinax and nieces Jennifer (William) Fortunato and Hope Mullinax. Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Opal Mullinax.

Wanda was a 1976 graduate of North Gwinnett High School and briefly attended Georgia College in Milledgeville. She was a devoted wife, committed Suzuki violin mom, and loving grandmother known to her grandchildren as Granna. Wanda was a music teacher at Duluth FBC preschool for many years. She was a 54-year survivor of type 1 diabetes. Wanda was active in the ministries of Celebration Church and Highlands Mission Cooperative. In 2016, she felt led to sew dresses for young girls to be distributed in Nicaragua through Highlands Mission Cooperative. Along with her sewing partner, Anita, Wanda had provided 931 dresses as of the end of 2023. She was looking forward to sewing dress number 1000 in 2024.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Dr. Mike Day will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, January 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
