Shirley Ruth Harris

Obituary Date: Saturday, January 13, 2024

Life is a celebration of God’s presence, times to rejoice, and his gift to bless the lives of others as he has commanded. The depths and heights of the greatest love of all is God’s love and to have lived in God’s truth. This is the life that Shirley embraced and lived.

Shirley Ruth Harris was born to the late Walter and Edna Tate Harris in Elberton Georgia. She entered her eternal rest on January 13, 2024, at the Northeast GA Hospital, Gainesville GA.
Shirley attended the Elbert County School System and Blackwell Memorial High School. Shirley wanted a better life for herself, so she migrated to Gainesville GA in the early 1960’s. She had an excellent work ethic. Her employment included the following companies: Jessie Jewels, and Marjac Companies.

Shirley was such a loving and caring person. She had a heart of gold and would do whatever she could to help anyone. She loved cooking, working with her flowers, and sitting outside to enjoy God’s beautiful nature.
Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings: Mattie (M.E.) Nunnally, Walter Harris, Jr., Curtis Harris, and Alton Harris.

At an early age she joined the Cade Chapel Baptist Church in Elberton GA. Because she knew the importance of a close relationship with God, after moving to Gainesville GA, she joined the Antioch Baptist Church. During her time at Antioch, she served on the Ushers Ministry and assisted with the Food Preparation Ministry.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted sister, Phenoris Harris of the home, her nephews, Darrah Turman Newark, New Jersey, Walter Harris III, Derrick Harris of Knoxville Tennessee, Randy Harris, Joppa MD, Beverly Harris (Tammy), Flowery Branch, GA, Kenwin Harris (Tabitha), Elberton, GA and Ricky Harris (Monique) , Anderson S.C., and many great nephews. Her nieces, Min. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Memorial Park Chapel between the hours of 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
