Morris Lynn McClure

Obituary Date: Saturday, January 13, 2024

Morris Lynn McClure affectionately lived a beautiful life of 84 years.

He was born December 31, 1939 in Dawsonville, Georgia to loving parents, Ford and Emily McClure, and was raised in Concord Baptist Church. He was a hardworking man, dedicated to his family. Everything he did was for them.

In 1959 he met the love of his life, Charlotte Lee Tankersley, in Gainesville, Georgia. He was a people person, never met a stranger, and accepted them all.  He was compassionate, loving, caring, attentive, and funny. If you were around Morris he would always greet you with a smile and you were guaranteed to laugh because he made everyone feel loved and welcome. Alongside Charlotte, he joined Central Baptist Church in 1960 and was an ordained deacon. He was also a lifelong attendant of the Lumpkin County Camp Meeting in Dawsonville, GA. He later would go on to help start Lanier Hills Church in 1993 with his family. Throughout his life his mission was to love and serve the Lord in all that he did.

In 1966, he opened the Triangle Quick Serve, one of the finest convenience stores of its kind in Gainesville. The store became a popular hangout for locals and teens.  He then established Morris McClure Distributing, which served North Georgia for 34 years.

Morris was a lover of country music and a collector of many vintage finds. He loved classic cars, baseball cards, and had extensive coin collections. He was also a member of the Lanier Shrine Club and served as president in 2011. He also enjoyed traveling with the Old Friends Car Club.

One of his greatest achievements was his work with the Masonic Lodge since 1961 and the Yaarab Shrine Temple since 1968.

Morris was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ford and Emily McClure. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlotte Tankersley McClure; his daughter, Shannon McClure Pannek and husband Derik Marc Pannek; granddaughters, Rebecca Hudgins Pannek, Meredith McClure Pannek, and Jenna Lee Pannek. He is also survived by his siblings, Allen McClure, Linda McClure Peck, Carol McClure Ransom, Ann McClure Whitmire and husband Lester Whitmire, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2024 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Taylor and Jim Delay will officiate.
