James “Jim” Benjamin Mathis, Jr. passed peacefully in his home, after an extended illness, on December 30, 2023. Jim was born on March 29, 1931 in Laurens County, GA. He loved fishing, the great outdoors, and spending quality time with his family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Benjamin and Mavis Lee Mathis; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Wiley Brown; brothers, Billy Mathis, Wendell Mathis, Robert “Bob” Mathis; and sister, Ruby Mathis Brantley. He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Dottie Mathis; children, Alan (Vicki) Mathis, Benjamin “Ben” (Carol) Mathis, Steve (Darcy) Mathis, and Julie (Craig) Bradshaw; sisters, Louise (Stan) Bagwell of North Carolina and Joyce (Bill) Taylor of Sparta, GA; sisters-in-law, Linda (Hansel) Parks of Buford, GA, Kathy Ramey of Flowery Branch, GA and Betty Mathis of Atlanta, GA; brother-in-law, Wayne Brantley of McIntyre, GA; ten grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service officiated by Kenneth Parker will be held at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity organization or church of choice.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
