Shelia Cantrell

Mrs. Shelia Cantrell, 69, of Gainesville, passed away Monday, December 4, 2023 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Earl Pirkle will officiate. Interment will be in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery 12030 GA 197 Clarkesville, GA 30523. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Born on January 7, 1954 in Rome, GA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Vasser, Jr and the late Margaret Stansell Vasser.  Mrs. Cantrell was retired from Fieldale Farms where she was the Executive Director of Worker’s Compensation. She was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she and her late husband, Rickey, worked with the youth program for many years. More recently, she attended Providence Baptist Church in Batesville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rickey Cantrell and her brother, Randall Vasser.

Mrs. Cantrell is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Mandy and James W. Byrnes, III of Gainesville, Tracy and Damon Nix of Buford; grandchildren, Dawson Byrnes, Caroline Byrnes, Lane Nix, Owen Nix; brother and sister in law, Ronald and Kyle Vasser and a number of other loving relatives. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, whose grandchildren called Mamoo. She was known for her warm hospitality-creating memories her family will hold close forever.
