James "Jimmy" Lathan Walker, Jr.

Obituary Date: Saturday, December 2, 2023

James “Jimmy” Lathan Walker, Jr., of Dahlonega, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Jimmy was born in New York on June 14, 1952 to Jimmy Walker, Sr. and Joan Pidgeon Walker.

He is survived by his loving wife Joy Chapman Walker of Dahlonega; daughter Brandi (Ryan) Holloway of Blueridge; brothers Wade (Sherri) Walker and Bill Walker, both of Dahlonega; grandchildren Emma Nicole Holloway and Reid Walker Holloway; niece and nephew Brittany White and Wesley Walker; and special friend George Jennings.

Along with his two brothers, Jimmy and his parents eventually made their home in Atlanta. Jimmy attended and graduated from The Arlington School in Atlanta. He went on to attend the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. Jimmy later became a yardmaster with Northfolk Southern. Jimmy was an amazing storyteller and some of his greatest stories included his time spent with the railroad.

Jimmy loved life and did not waste a single moment. He was larger than life in both stature and spirit. Those who knew him will find it impossible to think of him when he wasn’t smiling or laughing. His love of life was infectious and he truly lived life to the fullest. Jimmy was an extraordinary cook and that proved to be one of his love languages. If you were lucky enough to enjoy a meal he prepared, you were lucky enough. There were only two rules for any meal he prepared: you better be on time and you had to try everything on your plate at least once. No exceptions to the rules.

The only thing he enjoyed more than food and preparing it was music. He loved his music. That love of music spanned numerous decades and genres. He just loved all music and wanted to share it with anyone who would listen. Jimmy was extremely intelligent and could teach himself how to do almost anything he set his mind to. He particularly loved to do projects around the house. He left a beautiful home with his creativity and handiwork displayed throughout. You can not walk in a single room that he didn’t leave better than he found it. His home is much like anyone that met him, he left you better than he found you and he left you with a smile.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Yahoola Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM  - 1:30 PM at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 prior to the service.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Inspire Hospice and the entire staff at The Resting Nest for their love and care of Jimmy.
