John William Harm

Mr. John William Harm, 93, of Flowery Branch passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2023 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Morris Shadburn and Rev. Matt Calvert will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Tuesday, November 14th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Born on October 16, 1930 in Sioux City, IA, he was the son of the late Michael P. Harm and the late Eleanor A. Franzberg Harm. His mother, father, sister and brothers made the migration from Iowa through Route 66 to California. He was always willing to step in and help with family needs. He was of the Baptist faith.

John was a Hero and Serviceman at heart honoring his family and Country’s duties.  John enlisted in the United States Navy on February 28, 1948 and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1956. While serving in the Navy, he did a Peace Tour of the World after World War II. He then enlisted in the Coast Guard on June 12, 1958 at the USCG Air Station, St. Petersburg, FL. During his time in service he received the National Defense Service Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Ribbon, Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal and Expert Pistol. Mr. Harm retired from the military after 33 years (Navy and Coast Guard combined) of service at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3, at the United States Coast Guard Air Station, San Francisco, CA, on June 30, 1974. John was a Proud Veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard.

John loved the game of Golf, NASCAR Racing, reading novels and of course his convertibles.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Harm was preceded in death by his wife, Tenny Wofford Harm; son, Travis Mooney; sister, Shirley Franklin and brothers, Edward Harm and Gerald Harm.

Mr. Harm is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Harm Nicholson of Marietta; daughter and son in law, Katrina and Morris Shadburn of Claxton; son, William M. Harm of Gainesville; son and daughter in law, Chris and Jane Harm of Marietta; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
