Mr. Otis Paul Rakestraw, Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Antebellum James Burgess Assisted Living and Memory Care facility.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
Mr. Rakestraw was born July 14, 1938 to the late Otis Paul Rakestraw, Sr. & France Helen McKelvey in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1963 with a Bachelors in
Mechanical Engineering and worked as a mechanical engineer until his retirement.
Mr. Rakestraw is survived by his children, Tammy (Carl ) Pyrdum, Brian Rakestraw; Keith (Jennifer) Rakestraw; grandchildren, Ashley Pyrdum, Rhett Pyrdum, Aubrey Rakestraw, &
Haley Downey; great-grandchildren, Julian, Tristan, Layla, Jayden, & Evelyn; sister, Marlene Ellis and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy Rakestraw, son Blake Rakestraw and brother Ronald Rakestraw.
Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. A man of devote faith and deep love of family. He spent most fall Saturday's watching his beloved Tech play
football. Through the years he loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. His smile always lit up the room. A kind man with a huge heart who will be dearly
missed by all. In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. We will hold you in our hearts forever.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
