Leona Mae Mucheck

Leona Mae Mucheck, 77, Hoschton, Georgia peaceful entered the gates of heaven, Sunday, September 24, 2023 at home with her beloved husband and family.

Mrs. Mucheck was born in Terra Alta, West Virginia to the late William Fred Strawser and the late Jewel Strawser. In addition to her parents Mrs. Mucheck is preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean Whitehair. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Thomas Mucheck; daughters, MaryAnne (Joel) Vanscoy and Christine Mucheck Moody; sister, Cleo Ann (Richard) Small; granddaughters, CherylAnne (Paul) Cross and Rose Moody; grandson, Christopher Moody; great-grandson, Jaxon Cross; five nephews; and one niece.

Mrs. Mucheck was an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch and in her earlier years devoted herself to the understandings of catholic theology.  She was one of the first Graduating classes of Atlanta to complete the RUAH world Catholic studies program at Lyola University in New Orleans (1987-1988). In 1997 she completed the Case sponsor program of the tribunal of the Archdiocese of Atlanta having received the training necessary for this ministry. Mrs. Mucheck put her training into practice as she headed the RCIA program at Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Douglasville and later at our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Temple, Georgia. She was active in the CCD program in Smithtown, New York, Garden Grove, California as well as here in Georgia, before her health and physical condition limited her activities. She also was a Catholic Eucharistic Minister in Smithtown, New York Kendall Park, New Jersey, and Douglasville, Georgia. In the Fall of 1985 Leona and Tom joined and became part of the Atlanta marriage encounter community, that has lasted until now and created some of the greatest friendships they’ve had.

A Funeral Mass will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2023 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with interment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery.  Father Pete Coppola will officiate.  The family will receive friends Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 6-8 pm at Memorial Park South Funeral Home. A Reception will follow at Reunion Country Club, 5609 Grand Reunion Drive, Hoschton, GA 30548.
