Gary Ben Stephenson

Mr. Gary Ben Stephenson, recently of Columbia, South Carolina but a long-time Toccoa, Georgia resident, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the age of 80.

A son of the late Mary Helen Ayers McGee and Ben Yow Stephenson, he was born October 16, 1942 in Stephens County, Georgia. He was a graduate of Toccoa High School and Piedmont College. Gary worked several years as a teacher and coach before pursuing other vocations in manufacturing and sales. He was well-known as a jovial, friendly, and most helpful fixture in the sporting/automotive section at K-Mart and men's clothing at Belk, both in Toccoa. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Toccoa.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Stephens Stephenson of Lexington, South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, David and Meg Stephenson of Leesville, South Carolina; and three grandsons, Xander, Reese, and Wesley.

A celebration of life service will occur Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church Toccoa with The Reverend David Ritcey, The Reverend Brett Sanders and The Reverend Christ Camden officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, David Abbot, Travis Fleming, Steven Gilmer, Rich Haney, Shannon McFarlin and Gerald Turner.

The family will receive friends in the church Chapel from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Horeb MKids Special Needs Class, 1205 Old Cherokee Road, Lexington, SC 29072 in memory of Mr. Gary Ben Stephenson.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Gary Ben Stephenson.
