On June 5, 2023, Lisa Ann Poppell of Flowery Branch, GA passed away peacefully in her sleep at home. She was 61. Born in Atlanta, GA, she attended Tucker High School. She went on to graduate from Emory University in 1983 and had a celebrated career as a CPA. After graduating, she joined the accounting firm of Gifford, Hillegass & Ingwerson, where she worked for 25+ years as a Senior Partner in the Small Business Advisory division.
Lisa will be remembered for her unconditional love as a dedicated mother and loyal friend. She had a strength of character, a wicked charm, and a deep well of kindness. She enjoyed spending her time watching classic television shows, cooking for her family, walking her beloved dog, Dexter, while visiting neighbors, and indulging her sweet tooth. Every tax season was faced with a drawer of Necco Wafers and Tootsie Rolls.
She had a sweet and sensitive nature that warmed the hearts of those around her, and she faced the challenges life brought with a dry wit and a quiet grace. Her children most remember her wisdom to have empathy for those who may challenge you, drive yourself to achieve your potential, and carry kindness in your heart for those who are lonely, because they need it the most.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Shirley Royal, as well as her brother, Jimmy Royal. She is survived by her children, Kathryn Landry and Alex Poppell; her granddaughter, Ryan Landry; her brothers, Keith Royal and Brian Royal, as well as her former husband and dear friend Danny Poppell.
A Memorial Service will be held at Flanigan Funeral Homed in Buford, GA on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Michael Moore officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to ASPCA.
