Roger Thomas Hedlund

Obituary Date: Wednesday, August 16, 2023

Roger Thomas Hedlund of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away on August 16, 2023 at the age of 64.

Roger was born on May 28, 1959 in Youngstown, Ohio.  He attended Youngstown State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1983.  During his growing up years he enjoyed many activities including tennis and golf.  He loved most things sports, especially Ohio State and Pittsburg Steelers football!  He was the youngest of 4 children and grew up with a love of family for which his parents modeled and instilled in him.

Roger moved from Youngstown to Atlanta shortly after college graduation where he started to work at Burroughs Corporation in the IT field.  It was a wonderful career in IT that spanned about 40 years.  It was through his job at Burroughs that he met Maureen, whom he dated and later married in 1985.

Roger enjoyed many activities before illnesses kept him from them.  He was active in tennis and the men’s choir at Lawrenceville First for many years. But his favorite activity was spending time with his family:  his wife and three beautiful daughters.  Time was well spent at their sporting events, family activities, games with the girls, and many fun family vacations over the years.

Roger had a good sense of humor and was the king of “Dad jokes!”  He also took no prisoners when it came to playing board games and card games.  But in the end, he was a fighter after a long fought battle with illness.

Roger is survived by his wife, Maureen, and his three amazing daughters: Jennifer Hedlund, Stephanie Hedlund (Ari), and Katie Baker (Austin).  He has three beautiful granddaughters: Madelyn, Faith, and Hannah.  Roger is also survived by his siblings Nancy Roessler (Dave), Phyllis Chapel (Mike) and Randy Hedlund (Barbara).  There are also many wonderful nieces and nephews.  Roger is preceded in death by his parents Robert Hedlund and Ruth Linstrum.

The family will hold a private memorial at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel and Gardens on Saturday, September 16 followed by a Public Celebration of Life Open House for Roger at the family residence in Lawrenceville at 995 Lewis Ridge Circle from 2 – 6 pm.

Because of his love of music and his love of the LV First Men of Praise men’s choir, donations in Roger’s memory can be made to:
