Homer Cantrell

Mr. Homer Cantrell, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and faithful member of his community, passed away at the age of 85 on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. He was born in White County to the late Floyd and Dorothy Roberts Cantrell.

Homer's life was a testament to love, dedication, and unwavering faith. He was a man of strong character and integrity whose warm smile and compassionate heart touched the lives of many. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humility, and love that will be carried on by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Homer worked and retired from Pinetree after more than four decades.

Throughout his life, Homer found joy and fulfillment in his marriage to his beloved wife, Arlene Cantrell. Their union of 63 years was a shining example of commitment and devotion, inspiring all who knew them. Their love story was one for the ages, a beautiful bond that withstood the test of time and adversity.

A man of deep faith, Homer was an esteemed Deacon and devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church. He served his congregation with dedication, guiding others with his wisdom and compassion. Homer's unwavering faith was a source of strength and inspiration to those around him, making a profound impact on the lives of many.

In his spare time, Homer pursued his passion for woodworking and fixing things. He had a remarkable talent for crafting beautiful pieces from wood and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His skills and willingness to assist others enriched the lives of his family and friends.

To his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Papa." He shared a special bond with each of them, creating lasting memories and imparting valuable life lessons. Homer's love for his grandchildren was boundless, and he took great pride in watching them grow and succeed.

Homer Cantrell was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Dorothy Cantrell, as well as his brothers, Roy Cantrell and Grady Cantrell. He is survived by beloved wife Arlene Cantrell, Dahlonega; children David and Remy Cantrell; Donna and Mark Anderson, all of Dahlonega; grandchildren Lauren and Marcos Torres, Zack Anderson, Mallory Anderson, Jake Cantrell, and Savanna Cantrell; great-grandchildren Mason Torres, Allie Torres, Wyatt Torres; siblings Boyd Cantrell, Ruth London (Lamar), Dewey Cantrell (Mary), Joyce Lail (Harold), Jane Odegard (Bill), Danny Cantrell (Julie); sister-in-law Jane Cantrell; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends, all of whom will cherish his memory forever.

The void left by Homer's passing will be felt deeply by all who knew him, but the love and memories he shared will forever live on in their hearts. He has left an indelible mark on the lives he touched and will be remembered as a kind, loving soul whose presence brought warmth and joy to those around him.

A funeral service to celebrate Homer Cantrell's life will be held at 2:00 Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Friendship Baptist Church. The Rev. Phillip Robinson and the Rev. Dave Fortner will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park with the Rev. Dalton Delozier officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday and 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friendship Baptist Church in Homer's memory.
