Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Bethany Baptist Church with interment to follow in South Bend United Methodist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:30 – 2:00 pm. Reverend Lamar Purcell and Reverend Rodney Lackey will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 6 – 8:30 pm, at the funeral home.
Mr. Kemp was born March 20, 1950 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late T. J. Kemp and Nettie Abernathy Kemp. He retired from Coca-Cola Company with 38 years of service, then went to work for the City of Gainesville, where he was still employed. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Mr. Kemp is survived by his wife of 51 years, Retha Chandler Kemp of Oakwood, his brother & sister-in-law, Tony & Elizabeth Kemp of Clarkesville, his brother-in-law, William Chandler of Commerce, his brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Pittman & Dessie Chandler of Canon, Georgia and Ben & Patricia Chandler of Ashville, Alabama and his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Linda & Vernon O’Kelley of Winder and a number of nieces and nephews.
