Barbara Schumaker Badgett Purdy

Barbara Schumaker Badgett Purdy, age 89, of Gainesville entered rest peacefully Tuesday June 6, 2023, at Cedarhurst of Oakwood with her family by her side.

Barbara was born May 22, 1934, in Mount Airy, North Carolina, to the late Walter Sherman & Bessie Tuttle Schumaker. She formerly worked as a bookkeeper with Stork Gamco. She was a member of Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by her first husband, James Badgett; second husband, Len Purdy; sister, Christine Schumaker Howard & brothers, Gus, Leo, Horace & Vance Schumaker.

Left to cherish precious memories, daughters, Melanie Badgett Crumley & her husband, Doug; Marian Badgett Whitmire Buckley & husband, Ed & Molly Badgett; grandchildren, Whitney Crumley Mote & husband, Andy; Rebecca Crumley Mendez & husband, Daniel; Kristen Whitmire & Jon Beker; Thomas Whitmire and Teddy & Tucker Badgett; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Elizabeth, Jaxton & Catalina Mendez; and Jordan & Quinn Mote. A number of nieces, nephews & other relatives also survive.

Services honoring Barbara will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Ward's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Batusic officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. The family will receive friends Saturday June 10, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home and again immediately after the service.
