Mildred (Mickey) Tankersley Lawson

Obituary Date: Thursday, March 23, 2023

Mildred (Mickey) Tankersley Lawson, 97, of Gainesville, GA passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on March 23, 2023.

Born November 25, 1925, in Murrayville, GA, she was the daughter of late Will Smith Tankersley and Inez Zona Tankersley.

For 55 years, she served faithfully beside her husband, Rev. G.A. Lawson as a Baptist minister’s wife, serving in various churches in the Hall and surrounding area communities. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great- great grandmother.

Her legacy was built upon the word of God. She served God, her family, friends and the community as the Lord instructed with great joy and spent her final days worshiping and praising God for his abundant blessings.

She was not only a pillar of her church, but a pillar in the community, and someone to be admired for her grace, humility, and the legacy she has left for us all. ?Mickey was the life of any gathering.  The positive, upbeat, nonjudgmental, fun, witty, gracious hostess who always made anyone and everyone feel welcome and special.  She was never afraid to reach out to complete strangers who appeared lonely or left out of part of the fun.  Compassion was one of her greatest strengths. Mickey was kind and selflessly willing to reach out to a friend or family member in need.  She would give you the coat off her back or the bracelet on her wrist if you admired it. She never missed a birthday of those she loved.  She sent cards to each friend and family and church member in celebration of every special occasion.  Like clockwork her friends and family would receive a card, or a kind note from this thoughtful lady just to let them know, she was thinking about them.

In addition to her parents, Mickey is preceded in death by her husband Reverend, G.A. Lawson, sisters Wilma Peck Chapman and Wynell Scott Reid, son-in-law, Bobby Smith,
and so many loved family and friends.

She is survived by her children; daughter, Patricia “Patt” Lawson Smith, daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Lawson and Preston Lester, son and daughter-in-law, Tim (Doc) and Shirley Lawson; grandchildren, David Martin, Donna and Dennis Heusser, Jennifer and David Killingsworth, Julie and Tracy Payne, Katie Scarlett Lawson, Heather and Russ Crain, Stephen and Jenny Howard,  Timothy J. and Brianna Lawson; great-grandchildren, Kasey and Shawna Martin, Jessica and Chris Duncan, Winn and Angel Martin, Kelli and Ben Cox, Hannah Killingsworth, Blake Payne, Caroline and Josh Killingsworth, Preston and Callie Drasutis, Caroline Lester, Lawson Gowder, Rhiannon and Henry Crain, Luke and Lee Howard, Matilda and Cassidy Lawson; great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kaleb, Dylan, Connor, Astrid and expecting, Evander, Jordan and Allie; great-great-great grandchildren, Joey and Colton and many nieces and nephews, throughout the Hall County area.

A special thank you to all of the devoted community of caregivers, especially Kasey and Shawna Martin, Katie Lawson, Pam Cagle, Missy Wren’s team, also Amy Savage Grissom and her associates from Pruitt Hospice, for their excellent and loving care.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday March 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at New Bridge Baptist Church. Rev. Milton Harris will officiate.  Interment will follow in the New Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
