Evelyn Christine (Thompson) Bennett

Obituary Date: Saturday, December 31, 2022

Evelyn Christine (Thompson) Bennett, age 90, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed from this world to her eternal reward on December 31, 2022.

She was born on December 14, 1932 in Trumann, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Herman and Sarah Belle (Bradsher) Thompson. She is preceded in death by her husband George William Bennett; and her siblings, Edwin, Everett, William, Bernice, Marion (Dutch), Geraldine (Gerry), Mary Lou, Irma Dolores (Bobby) and Darrel.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her children Barry and his wife Sarah, Thomas and his wife Karen, Richard and his wife Diane, Sandra and her husband Mark Cape, Beth and her husband Jim Carey, David and his wife Annette, Evan and his wife Rachel; eighteen grandchildren and more than two dozen great-grandchildren.

Christine was raised in Trumann, excelled to be valedictorian of her class at Trumann High School and attended Arkansas State College until withdrawing to assist her widowed mother. She married George shortly after he began his Air Force career and traveled with him and their growing family to end ultimately in Tampa, FL, where they settled. They enjoyed 35 years in Tampa before George passed after 50 years of marriage, and she continued to reside there a further 17 years until her health forced her to move. The challenges of being a young Air Force wife and of raising 7 children, produced too many anecdotes to be related here. Suffice it to say she supported George in his military career and business and her children in their schooling and married lives (especially parenthood) to the nth degree. She was a dedicated servant of our Lord, worshipping at Drew Park and later at Citrus Park Church of Christ. Her giving nature and calm demeanor reflected the love she held in her heart and we will miss her greatly. She will be interred beside George at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

Memorial services will be held 6:30 pm Monday, January 16, 2023 at Citrus Park Church of Christ 5105 Ehrlich Road Tampa, FL 33624. Graveside services will be held 11:30 am, Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Florida National Cemetery, Florida.
