Mildred May Smallwood Day

Obituary Date: Monday, November 14, 2022

Mildred May Smallwood Day, beloved wife, grandmother and great-grandmother entered gracefully into the presence of the Lord on Monday, November 14th, 2022 at the age of 82. Mildred was born on December 21, 1939 in Duluth, Georgia, the daughter of Thomas and Lillie Bell Smallwood.

Mildred married the love of her life, Cleon Day and they enjoyed many wonderful years together. They created beautiful memories traveling, fishing, and being devout grandparents. Mildred was an unwavering support to Cleon in his illness. Their love story was one for the ages.

Mrs. Day was a devoted member of the Ivy Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed fellowship with her Senior Citizens group, and loved her Sunday School class. Mildred retired from Sears and spent many years doing what she loved as a Floral Designer. She was a pillar of strength who radiated her unwavering faith with everyone around her. Mildred loved her family and friends; as the matriarch of her family it was her life’s mission to care for and pray over those most dear to her. Even through her toughest trials she continued to find joy in writing cards, going on lunch dates, shopping outings, watching golf, working in her yard, and reading Amish love stories. Mildred was a nurturer; endearingly called Meme by all that knew her.

Mrs. Day was preceded in death by her husband, Cleon Day; her sister Brenda Griggs, brothers Frankie and Leon Smallwood.

She is survived by her daughters Debbie Bowen (Ricky) of Buford and Cynthia Westmoreland (Greg) of Duluth; sister Linda Willene Fain; grandchildren Michelle Chambers (Matthew), Kelley Payne (Wade), Maggie Brannon (Brian), Abby Holbrook (Kevin), Cody Bowen (Rebekah); great-grandchildren Sydni and Wyatt Chambers, Pierce, Adeline and Austin Payne, Bradleigh, Augustus, Jake, and Anna Catherine Brannon, Carson and Braxton Holbrook; as well as nieces and nephews from the Smallwood, Bullock, and Day families.

Mildred leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, compassion and love
