Matthew Lee Jones

Obituary Date: Monday, September 5, 2022

Matthew Lee Jones, 44, of Suwanee, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 5, 2022. His time on earth was not as long as we hoped, but we loved him every minute of it. Matthew loved time with his family and friends. He enjoyed game time with his family, being with his church family, Sunday dinners, NASCAR, and the great outdoors.
He was preceded in death by Grandma Pat Hildreth and Grandpa Loyd Hildreth; Grandma Elizabeth "Betty" Jones, Grandpa Clyde Jones, Great Grandpa Marion “Skippy” Schippers, Great Grandma Betty Schippers, Uncle Marvin Van Zee, Uncle Wayne Jones, Aunt Marceen Payne, and Nephew Blake Josiah Bauman.
He is survived by Parents John and Marilyn Jones of Suwanee, GA, Sister Jennifer Fogger of Jefferson, NC, Sister and Brother-in-law Kimberly and John Bauman of Destin, FL, and many beloved Nephews and Nieces, Cousins, Aunts, and Uncles.
You could find Matthew dressed up at church, on a cruise, or on a special night out, but his everyday attire consisted of colors of the Atlanta Braves, Florida Gators, Denver Broncos, or any camouflage. He loved a good hike or time in the mountains, possibly looking for Sasquatch. ;) You could find him cheering for NASCAR, any of his favorite sports teams, or anything his nephews or nieces were a part of. He was a great supporter of their activities.
Matthew enjoyed hunting with friends in Alabama. He had a passion for visiting and exploring new places, and he loved being a part of something "bigger." God was the center of his life, and his small groups at church have been great encouragers for him in life and in his spiritual journey. He has been well-loved by them throughout the years, from Niceville, FL, to Suwanee, GA. He was always happy to help someone out and looked for those opportunities. It was not uncommon for him to quietly do something for someone and keep it anonymous. His heart's desire was to be a career firefighter, but he had physical limitations that didn't allow it. That did not stop him from volunteering with the fire department to do whatever he could to help when he was younger.
In photos he has taken, you will notice that he liked to take candid photos, not always flattering... He wanted to capture the moment, not a perfectly-posed picture. This is part of what made Matthew different. He was just himself. Simple and loving.
He reached the age of 44 against all odds and by the grace of God. We are grateful that we were able to enjoy all these years with him, along with his nieces and nephews who had the opportunity to love him and be loved by him. We all look forward to seeing him again one day. We have great peace in knowing that, for the Christ-follower, to be absent from the body is to be present with Christ. Matthew is with his Savior, freer and happier than he has ever been. And singing his heart out.
We invite you to join us on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Flanagan’s Funeral Home on South Lee Street in Buford, GA. Visitation is from 1:00-2:00 and the Celebration of Life service is at 2:00.
