Joseph Clinton White

Obituary Date: Sunday, September 4, 2022

Joseph Clinton White of Gainesville, GA, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2022. Born on September 16, 1929, in Glen Alpine, NC to Summey Lenoir White and Nelle Celeste Long, Joe was the 12th of 13 siblings.  Joe married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Rose Orders, of Morganton, NC, and enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage before she passed away earlier this year on February 7, 2022.

Joe and Betty moved to Gainesville, GA in 1958, and they were an active part of the Gainesville Community ever since.  Joe’s first job was at Gainesville Mill, but he eventually found a home in the poultry industry after joining CWT Farms in 1965.  Joe and Betty were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, and they were among the early supporters of Young Life.  Joe was active in Rotary Club International, including a period as club president and an officer for the state association.  Joe and Betty were the parents of three children; Rosean (deceased), Randy, and Ben.

“Papa Joe” was a devoted fan of the Red Elephants and the Georgia Bulldogs.  He enjoyed evening pontoon cruises on the lake with Betty, and having a house full of kids and grandkids over for family meals.  He’ll always be remembered by his family for the traditional “bow on the forehead” that he would do at Christmas and birthdays.

Joe is survived by two brothers; Ben White and Steve White; his two sons and their (spouses); Randy White (Gail) and Ben White (Kim); his grandsons Joe White (Allie), Russell White (Sarah), Matt Lehr (Shannon) and Drew Lehr; his granddaughters Mary White Bononato (Rafa), Emily White Amack (Nate), and Susie White; and six great grandkids.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at The Phoenix at Lake Lanier, Golden Rule Hospice, Helping Hands Home Care, the staff of First Presbyterian Church, and to all of the friends and families that have supported Joe over the last several years.

Visitation for family and friends will be at Little-Davenport Funeral Home on Friday, September 9th, from 6 PM to 8 PM.  Funeral services will be at the First Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, September 10th at 2 PM with a reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an Alzheimer’s foundation of your choice, or to the First Presbyterian Church Evangelism and Outreach Program, 800 South Enota Drive, Gainesville, GA 30501, 770-532-0136 (fpcga.org)
