Mary Carter Williams

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mary Carter Williams, 100, of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 1, 2022.

She was born to the late Zenous and Nora Tarrant Carter on December 7, 1921, in Jefferson, Georgia.  Mary graduated from Jefferson High School and attended North Georgia College.

She married the late James Callaway Williams in 1941, and after WWII they lived in Jefferson, then later Newnan before she relocated to Cobb County.

Mary is survived by her daughter Pam (Robin) Szabo, granddaughter Christa (Spencer) Kieboom, great-grandson Alswinn Christopher Kieboom, sister-in-law Shirley Carter, and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband James, son Carter, and brothers James, Vernon, Talmadge and Dwight.

Mary was a devout Christian and member of Newnan First United Methodist Church for many years.  She prayed daily with her bible and prayer shawl she acquired during a trip to the Holy Land.

She led a very active life, loving to paint and sketch on canvas, sewing beautiful cathedral window quilts, playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, reading, riding her bike at Callaway Gardens, taking Zumba classes at the gym, and dancing for 17 years with a line dance group.  Her quick wit, sense of humor, and beautiful smile complimented her love of life.  Mary leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.

A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday July 9, at 11 AM, at Grey Hill Cemetery, Commerce, Georgia.  The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Wellstar Foundation Hospice.  Wellstar.org/givetohospice
