Mary Jim Musselwhite

Obituary Date: Sunday, March 20, 2022

Oh the party in Heaven.......

Mary Jim Musselwhite, 85 of Gainesville, Georgia, peacefully passed away Sunday, 3/20/2022, at her home, right where she wanted to be. Born January 30, 1937 in Wrens, Georgia, to Alvin Benjamin and Mary Wimburn Rhodes, she was an avid high school basketball player and cheerleader at Warrenton High School. She met the love of her life, Charles Musslewhite (1932-2019) at Georgia Teachers College (Georgia Southern). They married in 1957 and began the wonderful journey of a 63 year marriage that included 4 loving children, Mark Musselwhite, Holly McAlister (Stuart), Laura Wilson (Ron) and Allison Tharp. Nana (and Pops) loved and doted over their 11 grandchildren, Morgan Musselwhite, Sam McAlister, Molly Musselwhite, Hallie Marshall (Wesley), Luke Musselwhite, Ryan Tharp, Mary Frances McAlister, John Musselwhite, Hannah McAlister, Chandler Tharp and Meredith Tharp. Mary Jim always looked forward to and insisted on the many regular family gatherings over the years. She loved spending time with her family! She'll be missed greatly by her cousin Don King (Jean) and family as well as nephews Harry Musselwhite (Laura) and Steve Musselwhite (Gail) and family.

Mary Jim was the perfect Coach's wife, traveling from town to town over the years following Charles, loving each school, the various sports and the many friends they made along the way. When they finally settled in Gainesville, Georgia, she had two successful careers. She had her own interior decorating business called Someplace Else and later, she worked as travel agent with Wide Travel. As a travel agent, she was able to do what she truly loved, travel extensively, frequently and globally. She (and Pops) were rabid Georgia Bulldog fans and enjoyed the many games, the many cities, the many victories and the many friends they experienced along the way. In addition to knitting and BULLI classes at Brenau University, she was an avid cook and loved spending time in her kitchen. We are sad and do miss her dearly, but we are thrilled in the knowledge that she is partying and reuniting with those that have gone before and she is filled with health and joy being in the presence of our Lord.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. God's Peace To You All.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, March 25, 2022 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home with a visitation following the service.
