Alyce Katholene Strong

Obituary Date: Friday, March 11, 2022

Alyce Katholene Strong, age 84 passed away Friday, March 11, 2022, originally from Savannah, GA, moved to Cleveland, GA in 1985. She was born on October 23, 1937 to the late Ernest Miller Sr. and Eulalia Purdy Miller.

She was a faithful believer in Jesus and loved her music, crocheting and attending church and all its functions. She loved people and was known for her wonderful yeast rolls. She is the oldest of 8 children and worked at WSAV in Savannah as Film director for 30 years. She and her husband both were pilots and was the past president of the Georgia 99’ers [a group of female pilots started by Amelia Earhart]. After retiring and moving to Cleveland to take care of her mother following her fathers passing, she was involved in White County school system for 10 years. She also was a caregiver for many years caring for 4 dear ones in her home. She was extremely caring and giving. If she saw someone in need, she gave freely to them and a lover of animals, and some that took up there.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. She was blessed to have Kindred Hospice to care for her the past 2 years and loved each one of the RN’s that took such good care of her, especially Jessica. Other friends and family that helped to encourage and meant a lot to her were Rob Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hagan, Janet and Pastor Bill Barrs, Joyce Corcoran, Ruth Chambers, William and Merilea, Marguerite, Hannah and Cynthia. She loved her 37 years in Cleveland at the Home place of her parents.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James Byron Strong, brother Ernest H. Miller Jr. and sister Beth Riidam of RI.

She is survived by sisters; Janet M. Barrs (Billy) of Cleveland, Cynthia M. Wills of Cleveland, Marguerite M. Pruitt of Indianapolis, IN, Hannah M. Zaluski of West Palm Beach, FL, and brother William H. Miller (Merilea) of Canton, Ga as well as 13 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, March 14, 2022 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Pastor James Lyons and Dr. Wayne Lovell will officiate. Interment will follow at Heavenly Sunshine Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Camp Creek Baptist Church at 1761 Camp Creek Church Rd. Cornelia Ga 30501.
