Patricia Buck Rogers

Obituary Date: Sunday, November 28, 2021

Patricia Buck Rogers passed away Sunday, November 28 following an extended illness.  Born in Decatur Alabama, she moved to Pensacola, Florida where she graduated high school. While in Pensacola, she met a handsome naval aviator and they both attended Florida State University. After graduation, they married and moved to Savannah, Georgia and began their family. In 1970, Jim became Brenau University president and Gainesville has been home ever since. First Baptist became their church home and Pat used her vocal talents in the choir until her health would not allow.

Pat had a degree in early childhood education which she used while raising twin boys. Her station wagon was always full of boys carpooling to practices and ball games of every sort.  She was a right hand and partner to Jim during his tenure at Brenau University and his career in education. She hosted events for students, parents, and alumni always with a welcoming smile.  She was the consummate hostess, fabulous chef, and lover of flowers. She crafted the most beautiful arrangements til the end of her days. She had a passion for design, antiques and flowers. Her green thumb was legendary but her true joy was the love she had for her husband, family and grandchildren. She loved her “babies."

Services will be held at First Baptist Church Chapel on Thursday, December 2 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in the Parlor outside the chapel following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Music Ministry or a charity of your choice.

Pat is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Travis Rogers, sons Travis Rogers (Janice), Jim Rogers (Megumi) Hikari, Japan, and grandchildren Mills Rogers, Atlanta Georgia, Anna Rogers, Birmingham, Alabama and Ryan Rogers, Hikari Japan, brother Gary Buck, Orlando, Florida and Sister Pam Buck, Decatur, Alabama. Pat is preceded in death by her parents Esther and Carlisle Buck.
