Robert “Bob” George Huthwaite

Robert “Bob” George Huthwaite of Dawsonville, GA a loving husband, proud father and “funny and incredible” grandfather passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 peacefully at home.

Mr. Huthwaite was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 4, 1937 to Janet (VanStone) and John R Huthwaite.  He attended Southeastern High School and Eastern Michigan University where he was a member of the ROTC and Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1960.  Bob served in the United States Army as a 1st Lt. in Army Intelligence and Security until 1960 and then he remained in the Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1966.   

Mr. Huthwaite began his career in advertising in Detroit, Michigan.  While there he met and married Dianne Elsom in 1965.  They were married in August 1965 in Windsor, Ontario.   Bob had a long career in advertising which began with Young and Rubicam, Inc. in Detroit, Michigan.  He later worked with Grant Advertising and eventually joined a newspaper representative firm, Sawyer Ferguson Walker where he remained for the largest portion of his career.  He was transferred several times to open and/or manage their Boston, Detroit and Atlanta offices until the company was sold. His passion for working then took him to Landon Media Group and eventually Metro-Suburbia until he retired in 2012.  During these years he was a member of several advertising associations including Mid Atlantic, FNAME, SNPA, Newspaper Advertising Sales Association (Board of Directors), Georgia/Alabama Newspaper Sales Association, and Atlanta Advertising Club-American Advertising Federation.

He and his wife enjoyed their numerous travels with family and friends.  Bob was a member of Dunwoody Country Club for 32 years and enjoyed the occasional golf game and was a member of ALTA Tennis but really enjoyed the Friday night dinners with wonderful friends. 

Bob earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1951 and was involved in scouting through the years with his sons who also attained the Eagle rank and Order of the Arrow.

Bob is survived by his wife Dianne (Elsom), sons Lance (Vivian), and Justin and 5 grandchildren, Addison (Younes), Cosette, Christian, Ansley and Lexi Warner. He is survived by his younger brother Peter Huthwaite (Laura) of Grosse Pointe Shores, MI and sister-in-law Nina of Mackinac Island, MI and FL., He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other family members and wonderful friends.  He was predeceased by his older brother John and sister-in-law Penny Huthwaite as well as his brother Bart Huthwaite.

Bob will be forever remembered for his caring and nurturing personality and for always having a smile on his face.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at the National Cemetery in Canton, GA. On Friday, August 13, 2021 at 2:30 p.m.
