Mr. Walter Marrow Daves, Jr., age 78 of Addington Drive, Toccoa passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Stephens County Hospital.
A son of the late Walter M. Daves, Sr. and Gertrude Gullie Daves, he was born August 4, 1942 in Durham, North Carolina having lived in Toccoa since 1969. He was a graduate of Durham High School where he excelled in football and all sports, being named Athlete of the Year his senior year. He was a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He was the former owner and president of Piedmont Paints and Primers until 2000, a former member of the Board of Directors for the Bank of Toccoa, a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of various clubs and organizations in Toccoa and Stephens County. He was a pilot, an avid golfer and enjoyed playing rummy with his close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Eulaine Cochran Daves of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Daves Gilmer and Tommy of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Walter M. Daves, III and Ileyana of Toccoa; sister and brother-in-law, Betty Daves Huffman and Dan of Richmond, Virginia; step-children, Patricia and Barry Adkins of Nacogdoches, Texas, Brent G. Whiten of Acworth; grandchildren, Annabelle, Walker and Katharine Gilmer, Sophia and Walter M. Daves, IV “ Dru”; step-grandchildren, Maddie Adkins, Jackson, Ava and Jake Whiten; nephew, Johnathan Huffman (Holly) of Charleston, South Carolina; brother-in-law, William Cochran (Amelia) of Toccoa; many first cousins in North Carolina.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
