Mr. Carson “Sunset” Wood, age 93, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020. He was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County and was born in Dahlonega on September 11, 1927 to the late Woody and Miles Wood. Carson was well known around Lumpkin County for his famous “Buck Dancing” which he was very talented at. If you have ever been to the Buck Dancing competitions at the old Huddle House or Gold Rush, chances are you witnessed Carson take home the Gold Medal. With Carson, what you saw is what you got. He will always be remembered as the amazing family man that he was.
Carson is survived by his grandson, Tony Porter of Jenkinsburg, GA; and special nieces, Cathy (Tony) Garcia, and Sissy (Freddie) Bryan, both of Dahlonega. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters, Marie Miles, and Marcia Lynn Hope; and grandson, Scotty Beck. He is also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
A graveside service for Carson will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the cemetery of Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Freddie Bryan officiating.
