Atlanta-bound bus crashes in snow; 4 hurt seriously

By The Associated Press
STAFFORD, Va. (AP) A bus en route from New York to metro Atlanta ran off snowy Interstate 95 in northern Virginia and overturned early Monday, seriously injuring four passengers, state police said.

The driver, Qilong Xiao, 50, of Flushing, NY, was driving too fast for road conditions and was charged with reckless driving, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. He was held on $5,000 unsecured bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford County.

All 58 passengers on the Prince Tours bus were transported by local school buses to hospitals, but only four suffered serious injuries. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, Geller said.

Injured and uninjured passengers were taken from the scene to keep them together and provide shelter from the storm, Geller said.

The bus was en route from New York to Doraville, Ga., when the crash occurred about 4 a.m. Both lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours until the wreckage was cleared.

The bus refueled before the accident in Woodbridge and had one more stop in Virginia before arriving at its destination in Georgia. Prince Tours was providing transportation for the stranded passengers, Geller said.

Jail officials said Xiao had not secured an attorney.
