Longtime Gainesville doctor, Lakeview Academy founder dies

GAINESVILLE - A man who practiced medicine in Gainesville for a quarter-century and was one of the founders of Lakeview Academy has died.

Dr. Robert Tether, 84, died Wednesday. He was living in Greenville, S.C., at the time.

Dr. Tether was a physician in the Gainesville area for 25 years and a former Chief of Staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC).

Almost two years ago, he joined family and friends at the pediatric unit of Northeast Georgia Medical Center to unveil an interactive train exhibit made possible by his donation. (See link below.) Dr. Tether's son Rusty said at the time trains were a big part of his dad's life while not at the hospital. He added the idea to donate the trains came about a year earlier when his father was no longer able to work on them.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 Tuesday at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville.
