HSNEGA names new executive director

GAINESVILLE - After a national search and selection process, the Board of
Directors of the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) announced Thursday the selection of David Arias as the organization's new executive director.

"We are very excited to welcome David to HSNEGA" says Sid Chandler, chairman of the HSNEGA Board of Directors. "He has the skills and experience to take our organization to the next level in terms of the services we provide and the work we do on behalf of the animals in our region. David also possesses the perfect mix of respect for our past accomplishments and a vision for our future. I know everyone will join me in welcoming David and his family as they become part of our community."

Arias worked with the American Red Cross for seven years before making the decision to join HSNEGA, serving in several positions including senior consultant for chapter financial management, interim chapter executive for the Central South Carolina Chapter, and interim regional chief executive officer for the Greater Piedmont Region. A certified public accountant, Arias also has served as president of his own consulting business, which specialized in business valuations and financial advisory services, and as director of planned giving and major gifts for Birmingham-Southern College.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to work with a passionate group of donors, volunteers and staff who have the support of a terrific board of directors," Arias says. "It's an honor to be chosen to lead a team that is dedicated to the mission of creating a community recognized for responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals."

Arias will assume the role of HSNEGA's executive director on April 1, 2013, from Rick Aiken, HSNEGA's current executive director, who is retiring after 24 years of service.

Arias currently resides in Birmingham, Ala. with his wife, Sherri, a retired arts educator. They have three children, ages 18, 21 and 25, three rescued dogs and a cat.
