LILBURN - Perhaps he didn't want to come out in the cold because the operators of Yellow River Game Ranch had to roust Georgia's official groundhog out of his warm burrow on Saturday morning.
Finally, at 7:33 a.m., with the temperature a bone-chilling 21 degrees, Gen. Beauregard Lee emerged from his "estate" and he saw his shadow. And, that means, six more weeks of winter, according to Groundhog Day lore.
Gen. Lee's prediction contradicts that of Punxatawney Phil, his northern neighbor and prognosticator.
Phil did not see his shadow on this Groundhog Day, bringing the promise of an early spring to the folks in Pennsylvania.
