The Lumpkin County boys basketball team took a 44-43 with two minutes left but couldn't hold on for the win on Tuesday, as Lanier pulled away for a 53-45 victory.
The Longhorns drilled a 3-pointer to regain the lead at 46-44 and hit a number of free throws to seal the outcome.
Malik Anderson scored 12 points to pace Lumpkin, while Evan Gaddiss added nine points.
Jordan Harper scored a game-high 18 for Lanier.
Lumpkin County travels to face Union County on Friday.
