Peach State Bank robber connected to similar Toccoa crime

GAINESVILLE - The man police believe is responsible for the robbery of Peach State Bank in Gainesville Tuesday is also believed to have robbed a Regions Bank branch in Toccoa last month.

Gainesville Police Officer Kevin Holbrook said the Toccoa incident occurred on March 19.

"He did present a gun in the Toccoa robbery, so he is presumed to be armed and dangerous," said Holbrook.

He said no one was injured in the Toccoa or Gainesville incident, which is now also under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Police Cpl. Joe Britte said the suspect is described as a white man with sandy blond hair in his late 20s to early 30s. He said witnesses of the Gainesville robbery described the suspect as 5'11" to 6' tall with a slender build.

"[He was] carrying a black notebook, wearing blue jeans...baggy blue jeans...red Atlanta Braves hat and had a pair of white latex gloves on," said Britte.

Authorities said the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money in the 1:15 p.m. robbery.

A police spokesman said a surveillance camera captured a vehicle in the area that may have been what the perpetrator was in when he left the scene. The 1980's model Grand Mercury Marquis was seen leaving the scene of the crime in both cities.

"At the time of our robbery, the vehicle did not have a tag on the vehicle, however, it is believed that the suspect is possibly putting different tags on the vehicle," said Holbrook.

Anyone with information about either robbery is asked to contact authorities.
