It was a cat fight to the end as Banks County held on to beat Dawson County 28-21 Friday night in a key Region 8B-AA game.

It was Senior Night at Flowery Branch but it would not be the last time the senior Falcons would play at home. Flowery Branch pounded Johnson 42-13 at Falcons Field behind senior quarterback Jaybo Shaw. The Falcons' win, combined with a 40-14 Gainesville win over West Hall Friday, handed the Falcons the 7B-AAA subregion title.

Joe Johnson scored 28 points and the Hawks beat the Dallas Mavericks 101-94 in their season-opener on Friday night. The Hawks opened the season with a home win for the first time since the 1998-99 season, the last time they appeared in the playoffs.
