Class AAA No. 5 Walnut Grove came into its Region 8B-AAA game against West Hall Thursday with some gaudy statistics: only one run allowed in five games; averaging more than eight runs a game; a team batting average at nearly .400 for the season.

Coach Mark Richt says Georgia's defense played well but the offense struggled and was sloppy at times in the team's scrimmage at Sanford Stadium. After Saturday's scrimmage, Richt says he is glad the Bulldogs still have three weeks to prepare for the season.

Joshua Nesbitt is proving his dual-threat ability in Georgia Tech's practice. Nesbitt, the senior quarterback, had a 2-yard touchdown run and a 6-yard scoring pass to Stephen Hill in the Yellow Jackets' scrimmage at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday.
