Alabama will train 25 more state troopers to recognize and detain illegal immigrants during traffic stops, a program that a Department of Homeland Security official is hoping can be copied nationally.

Augusta State catcher Sam Barth broke the NCAA Division II record for consecutive games with a hit on Wednesday. Barth, who surpassed the mark set by Lenoir-Rhyne's Craig Sizemore, hit a single against Paine College to extend the streak to 48 games.

Democrats failed Wedneday morning to get the state House to reconsider a vote taken Tuesday capping HOPE Scholarship eligibility. The measure will affect six degree programs at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega.
