A single-engine plane flying towards Atlanta was diverted to the Habersham County Airport after it experienced an in-flight emergency Thursday night.
Habersham County emergency personnel were dispatched to the airport just before 9 p.m. Thursday after Atlanta Center notified officials those inside the plane reported smoke coming out of the cockpit.
Habersham County Emergency Services Battalion Chief Dwight McNally reported services with Baldwin, Cornelia, and Habersham county responded to the scene.
“Fortunately, the gentlemen in the plane were able to land safely,” McNally said in a release. “The plane was not on fire and they just had a minor mechanical issue.”
The plane was able to land and taxied onto a ramp just off the airport's taxiway.
No one was injured in the incident and no damages were reported. The emergency landing did not impact regular airport operations.
