Several Hall County schools achieve honors status through the Georgia Dept. of Education

A record number of accolades are going to Hall County's schools for making the grade as honors schools, according to the Georgia Department of Education (DOE). 

The Hall County School District is announcing the district's high schools that have been named 2024 Georgia Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools by State School Superintendent Richard Woods. The number of accredited AP schools is the highest number of AP Honor Schools in district history.

A press release from the Hall County School System says several  high schools are AP Honor Schools in more than one category, and all high schools that administer AP exams are represented;. This year marks the highest number of AP Honor Schools in district history.

The state's BOE AP exams are administered by the College Board, which also administers the SAT.  AP courses are one of several ways Georgia students can access college-level rigor at the high school level; students who receive a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam are eligible to receive college credit.

The following is a list of the  schools recognized for their AP honors:

2024 AP ACCESS AND SUPPORT SCHOOLS: Schools with at least 30% of AP exams taken by students who identified as African American and/or Hispanic (minimum of 16 students) and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher. At least 25 exams must be administered.

  • Chestatee High School
  • East Hall High School
  • Johnson High School
  • West Hall High School

2024 AP SCHOOLS OF DISTINCTION: Schools with at least 20% of the total student population taking AP exams and at least 50% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

  • Cherokee Bluff High School
  • Chestatee High School

2024 AP EXPANSION SCHOOLS: AP schools with 25% growth in AP student participation from May 2022 to May 2023 and a minimum of 25 students testing in May 2022.

  • Chestatee High School
  • East Hall High School
  • Johnson High School
  • West Hall High School

2024 AP HUMANITIES SCHOOLS:  Schools with at least five exams administered in each of the following AP categories: one ELA course, two social studies courses, one fine arts course, and one world language course and a minimum of 25 total exams administered.

  • Cherokee Bluff High School
  • Chestatee High School
  • Flowery Branch High School

2024 AP HUMANITIES ACHIEVEMENT SCHOOLS:  AP Humanities schools with at least 50% of all AP Humanities exams earning scores of 3 or higher.

  • Cherokee Bluff High School
  • Flowery Branch High School

2024 AP STEM SCHOOLS:   Schools with a minimum of five students testing in at least four AP STEM courses, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, and a minimum of 25 exams administered.

  • North Hall High School

2024 AP STEM ACHIEVEMENT SCHOOLS:  AP STEM schools  with at least 50% of all AP STEM exams earning scores of 3 or higher.​

State School Superintendent Richard Woods stated in the release, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the 2024 AP Honor Schools. I commend them for their hard work to build strong Advanced Placement programs and, as a result, provide high-quality opportunities for Georgia students."
