By AccessWDUN Staff

A Buford man was identified Thursday morning as the suspect in an early Wednesday morning homicide.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said Erik Ruiz Lopez, 19, was charged with aggravated assault, felony murder and malice murder.

His arrest came after authorities found a man dead at about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Ivy Birch Way in Buford.

Lopez was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail. The name of the victim has not been released, as authorities said they have not yet identified the man's next of kin.

Detectives determined Lopez and the victim shared a bedroom in the home. They got into a physical altercation in the shared bedroom, which resulted in Lopez allegedly choking the victim unconscious with a television cable. Lopez then left the room, returned with a knife and allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times.
