Cornelia man arrested on child molestation charges

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A Cornelia man is facing charges in two different counties related to allegations of child molestation.

A release from the Rabun County Sheriff's Office said investigators received a complaint from the parent of a juvenile female in early March. A forensic interview was conducted with the child and it reportedly indicated that a close family friend, David Roy Summers, age 52, was spending time alone with the child at a residence in Habersham County and taking her to job sites in Rabun County.

"During that time together, Summers inappropriately touched the victim and engaged in sexual intercourse," Rabun County authorities said.

Investigators interviewed both Summers and other witnesses, who reportedly confirmed that Summers and the victim had been seen together at job sites around Lake Burton. Summers was then arrested on March 13 and booked into the Habersham County Jail on charges of sexual battery and child molestation.

The Rabun County Sheriff's Office has also issued warrants against Summers for three counts of child molestation. The investigation into Summers is ongoing.
