Two people were killed in a two-vehicle wreck early Tuesday morning on Canton Highway near the Cumming City Center in Forsyth County, and a second driver has been charged with DUI.

According to a press release from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the wreck happened at about 5:00 a.m. near Sawnee Corners Boulevard.

A preliminary investigation reportedly determined Edwing Morales-Perez, 19, of Alpharetta, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado west on Canton Highway in the right lane. Kayla Uribe, 19, of Cumming, was driving a Chevrolet Camaro west in the right lane.

The two vehicles were approaching a portion of Canton Highway where the two westbound lanes merge into one.

"It appears the two drivers were trying to get to the merge first," the release said. "The Camaro was attempting to move in front of the Silverado and misjudged the clearance colliding with the Silverado."

The Camaro then drove off the road and hit a large tree. Uribe and a passenger in the vehicle, Luis Rodriguez-Sigero, 30, of Canton, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Morales-Perez was uninjured. The sheriff's office said he was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and was arrested as a result.

"Fault for the crash will be determined as the investigation progresses," the release said.

The agency said speed was a contributing factor in the wreck for both vehicles.

The crash remained under investigation as of Wednesday morning.
