The Lawrenceville Police Department Feb. 26 received multiple calls about shots fired from one vehicle into another near SR 316 at Duluth Highway.

At approximately 4:00 p.m., authorities received tips that an operator of a sports utility vehicle shot multiple rounds into another vehicle, according to police. Soon after arriving at the scene, officers found the victim and gathered additional information.

Two people in a vehicle were reportedly fired upon by a suspect as both vehicles were traveling on SR 316. Neither of the people in the vehicle that were fired upon were hit by any shots, but they were injured by glass fragments from the vehicle's window.

Detectives were able to find bullet holes in both the driver’s and passenger’s headrests, officials said Tuesday.

After an investigation, detectives identified Charles Ray Montgomery, 41, of Dacula, as the shooter.

Less than 24 hours later, Montgomery was spotted and taken into custody. He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Anyone who witnessed the incident has been asked to contact LPD Detective Berry at [email protected] or by calling (770) 670-5138.
