Forsyth County fire officials say a residential burning mishap led to a one-acre brush fire Monday afternoon in the south end of the county.
Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said Tuesday that the incident happened at around 3:45 p.m. off of Old Atlanta Road just south of Melody Mizer Lane.
"The report that came to us was that a lady was trying to burn off some of her garden space using a butane or propane torch, to help burn off weeds and grasses," Shivers said. "It unfortunately got out of hand and got into some adjacent brush and spread for about an acre."
Shivers said no homes were damaged in the fire and several engines were able to arrive quickly and contain the blaze. No injuries were reported.
Shivers said the woman is not facing any charges in the incident, but he added that it should serve as a cautionary tale for anyone looking to burn on their property in the coming months.
"This time of year, caution is always needed, especially when we've had a few days of dry weather," Shivers said. "Low humidity, a breezy day and several days of dryness can certainly result in tragedy very quickly."
Old Atlanta Road was closed in the area for around an hour while crews worked the scene.
