Asbury Chapel purchases former Ward's Funeral Home property

By Submitted News

Asbury Chapel, a Global Methodist Church in Gainesville, has found a new church home and will relocate to the former Wards Funeral Home at 758 Main Street in Gainesville. After an extensive search, the property became available in late 2023. The church closed on the property today and expects to locate church administration and services to the property in the very near future.

In December 2023, Reverend Whit Martin, a Gainesville-native and pastor at Asbury Chapel, and Charles Hudgins, chairman of the Asbury Board of Trustees, presented the project at a church meeting where membership voted on and approved the property purchase. The property is centrally located and conveniently houses a quaint chapel, perfect for Asbury’s Sunday services as well as spacious rooms for Bible studies, Sunday School, children’s programs and more.

“Our leadership has said from the very beginning, ‘Let’s not get ahead of God,’” said Reverend Martin. “We have been prayerful, and patient and the Lord has blessed us with this amazing opportunity to serve Gainesville. It is an honor to be located amongst the people of this vibrant downtown area.”

Asbury Chapel conducted its inaugural service on January 8, 2023 with 165 in attendance. In just under a year, the church has experienced steady growth, welcoming 136 people who have decided to make Asbury their church home. Until locating to its permanent home, Sunday morning services (10:00 a.m.) are held at Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park North, 989 Riverside Drive in Gainesville.

Asbury Chapel is a Global Methodist Church whose mission is “to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.” John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, proclaimed, “The world is my parish.” Ever since, the people called Methodists have committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with people all around the world. Reverend Martin and the people of Asbury Chapel hope that the community will come experience Jesus with them, sharing the Gospel in the community and beyond.
