GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Brenau University hired Jon Garrick “JG” Hill as its new golf coach.

The university made the announcement via press release on Wednesday.

Hill is lead teaching instructor at Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club, a semi-private club located in south Hall County, and previously was assistant pro at Chestatee Golf Club in Dawsonville, Georgia.

“Brenau’s golf team has amazing potential and solid student leadership,” Hill said. “Our program has good players, each with distinct skills they can pass to the rest of the team. I’m excited to be a part of the team, and look forward to great successes.”

Hill formerly was head coach of the boys’ varsity golf team at Cherokee Bluff High School. Hill also previously served as middle school golf coach/assistant varsity boys coach at Gainesville High School and Riverside Military Academy, both in Gainesville, Georgia.

Michael Lochstampfor, Brenau’s vice president for athletics and head soccer coach, said Hill is a great fit for the position.

”He is an educator at heart, and his ability to effectively teach the necessary skills and help develop our golfers will contribute to the future success of our team,” Lochstampfor said. “Additionally, his connections, knowledge of Brenau, and ability to recruit locally will be valuable components as we seek to grow our golf program. I am excited to have him on our team!’

Hill also has a background in teaching various subjects, including physics and science. He previously taught at Cherokee Bluff High School, Gainesville High School, Creekland Middle School in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Lanier Middle School in Buford, Georgia, and Riverside Military Academy. He also taught GED courses at Lanier Technical College.
